Which solutions are available on Apperplace?

Currently we offer two different products for tablet publishing on the iPad. Apperplace Publishing for single issue publishing (such as books or catalogs) and Apperplace Bookstall for multi issue publishing (like magazines or periodicals).

What are the prerequisites for using Apperplace?

You need an Apple iOS Developer Account, a MAC Computer and the latest version of Xcode (Apple’s development environment)

Do I need programming skills?

No. However you should be familiar with MAC computers and have a basic technical understanding.

How do I obtain an Apple Developer Account, Xcode and what costs are related to it?

Visit www.apple.com/developer/ios/ to get your Apple Developer Account, Xcode and more information on costs.

How is the Pricing for Apperplace solutions?

Pricing for Apperplace Publishing is a 99€ one-time fee for the license.
Pricing for Apperplace Bookstall is a 999€ one-time fee for the license and 99€ fee per month for the hosting.
All prices exclude VAT.

How do I purchase and pay for my license?

Please visit the download area of the Apperplace product you are interested in to purchase your license via PayPal. PayPal also offers credit card payments that do not require a PayPal account.

Can I try out Apperplace products before buying?

Yes. You can download each Apperplace product and try it out for free. A demo logo will be visible on the upper right corner of each page. After you bought the license and entered your license key the demo logo will disappear.

I have special requirements. Can you provide a solution to me?

Just write to sales@apperplace.com for an individual offer.

Do I have to buy a new license for version updates?

You can use the same license key for updating your Apperplace Publishing and Apperplace Bookstall app
to a new release and also for content updates.

What is a Bundle Id?

The Bundle Id (Bundle Identifier) is the unique identification code for your specific app. You specify the Bundle Id for your app in the Apple Provisioning Portal. The BundleId is not visible to any user. Its purpose is to uniquely identify the app.

Are there rules about how to make up a Bundle Id?

Only default characters and numbers are allowed. No whitespace either! Typically a bundle identifier looks like this: “com.companyname.appname”

What is the Bundle Display Name?

The Bundle Display Name is the name, that is visible underneath the app icon on your iPad.

How do I control the name that appears in the App Store?

You can specify the Name that appears in the Apple App Store in iTunesConnect during the submission process.

I cannot see the changes I made on the simulator/device

Please “clean your project” in Xcode by choosing “product”, then hit the “Alt”-key to change the menu and select “clean build folder”.
For device builds also make sure nothing is left on your iPad or is reinstalled via iTunes synchronisation by deleting the app from both your iPad and iTunes. If you still encounter problems, restart the iPad after entirely powering off before building.

Apperplace Publishing

The Apperplace logo does not disappear after I entered the license key

Specify the bundle identifier in Xcode exactly the same way, you specified it in the Apple Provisioning Portal for your app. Be aware it is case sensitive. Also make sure you have cleaned your project.

Can I graphically customize my Apperplace Publishing app?

Yes. In addition to your content design you can use your own startscreen, controls, flying buttons and toolbar background. The Apperplace Publishing Software Documentation explains how this is done.

The changes I made, are not available on the simulator

  • Remove the app from the simulator
  • Ensure the file you changed is visible in xCode
  • Save the files you changed (in your case staticlinks.csv)
  • Clean xCode (Apple + Shift + K)
  • Run your app on the simulator again

Does Apperplace Bookstall support Apple Newsstand?

Yes.

How does Apperplace Bookstall work?

Apperplace Bookstall consists of two components. The iPad app and the Content Media Server. You provide new publications for download to the app by uploading them via the webinterface of the Content Media Server.

How many publications can I publish with Apperplace Bookstall?

The license does not limit the number of publications.

Is it possible to customize the appearance of the store, library and toolbar for my app?

Yes. You can customize all these settings in Xcode to give your app an individual appearance. You must do so before submitting your app to the Apple App Store. The Apperplace Bookstall Software Documentation provides detailed information.

Can I run the Content Media Server on my own hardware?

No. In order to ensure reliablity and quality of service the Content Media Server is available only via hosting service.

How do I add more publications?

Please refer to the Apperplace Bookstall User Manual Content Media Platform.

How can I add media enrichments in Apperplace Bookstall?

Just add the media enrichments for your publication by uploading and specifying them through the webinterface of the Content Media Server. Check out the Apperplace Bookstall User Manual Content Media Platform for detailed information.

Can I use In-App purchase for my magazines?

Yes. The Apperplace Bookstall User Manual Content Media Platform explains how to register publications as In-App purchase products in iTunes Connect.

Do I need more than one publication for starting?

There is no minimum number required for starting. For good user experience we recommend to start with three or more publications.

I have more than one type of magazine that I want to publish. Do I have to buy a license for each type of magazine?

No. You can use Apperplace Bookstall for as many different types of magazines as you like. You can separate them by defining a category for each type of magazine in the Content Media Server.

Are the 99€ the monthly fee for each publication?

No. The monthly fee is for the hosting service and does not refer to or limit the number of publications you can add to your Apperplace Bookstall solution.

The Demo layer does not disappear after I entered the license key

Can I give my bookstall app an individual look?

You can graphically customize your bookstall app by adding your own skin. The Apperplace Bookstall Software Documentation explains how this can be done.

Can I give my Content Media Platform account an individual look or add my logo somehow?

No. The Content Media Platform is designed as a solution with neutral appearance and no branding. Therefore it is not customizable at all.
