According to current discussions it can be worthwhile making your publications available on Apple Newsstand. Especially for magazines newsstand apps are said to perform better when it comes to sales, subscriptions and downloads.

From a technical and organizational point of view, realizing a newsstand app is more complicated and also more work than doing a traditional home screen app. There are many prerequisites a newsstand app must comply with, in order to make life easy for the end user (such as automatic background downloads of new issues).

Springtime is here and with it our new Apperplace Publishing Release 2.6.1 that brings along myriads of new features and improvements. We have put a lot of work and love into this new release and it will help you in making your Apperplace Publishing apps even more entertaining and exciting! Some of the most important features are:

Static links can be automatically generated from PDF metadata
Image galleries now can use PDF files as content source
Configurable lightbox effect for image galleries
New media enrichment flying audio buttons
New media enrichment plate list (displays context sensitive information in a small transparent grey rectangle)
Slideshow mode and multi-step zoom
Configurable shadow between two pages

Apperplace Bookstall Release 1.1.0 out now!

We are happy to announce Apperplace Bookstall 1.1.0 is out and available for download! We have added lots of new features; amongst the most important are:

Apple Newsstand support
Support for subscriptions (auto-renewable)
PDF based image galleries

In order to take advantage of the new functionality, you must set up your app with the latest project template! As always you can use your existing license key.

You will also notice the Content Media Server has some new options and menu items to enable you to manage all the necessary settings. Feature Preview Apperplace Bookstall February Release

Our new product Apperplace Bookstall has been available since December 16th 2011. We want to say thank you to all of our community members for their interesting and helpful feedback and the numerous constructive suggestions. Starting from this input we have decided to come up with the following new major feature in our February Release: Multi-App-Support. Multi-App-Support means you will be able to distribute publications uploaded to the Content Media Platform to more than one bookstall app. For instance this will enable you to cover the following scenarios:

A publisher with multiple magazines wants a bookstall app for each magazine while using only one Content Media Server account for publication management
A publisher with multiple magazines wants a bookstall app for each magazine and one general app that includes all magazines while using only one Content Media Server account for publication management
A company uses Apperplace Bookstall for internal purposes via its enterprise account, e.g. its sales force. Each product line has a an individually branded app of its own while document management for all apps is done by only one Content Media Server account

New Apperplace Publishing Documentation

A new version of the Apperplace Publishing software documentation is available now. This restructured software documentation describes how you can create an Apperplace Publishing App in 10 steps. Each step is described in a chapter of it’s own. Following the instructions in this document will successfully get you through the entire process of creating your own app based on Apperplace Publishing.

We will also come out with a quick guide shortly, since the description in each chapter is very comprehensive because it covers all features of Apperplace Publishing.

Apperplace Publishing Update Release 2.3.2

We have implemented some more improvements and minor fixes for iOS 5 in the last few days and are glad to provide update release 2.3.2 for Apperplace Publishing today. We highly recommend updating to version 2.3.2 for ideal iOS 5 support.

Migrating from versions 2.0 or 2.3.0 to the current version 2.3.2 can be done simply by exchanging the lib folder. Detailed information on how this is done can be found in the migration guide in the download area.

Update Release 2.3.0 for iOS 5 out now!

Apple will publicly release a new version of its operation system, iOS 5, on October, 12th. To ensure iOS 5 compatibility of Apperplace Publishing we released version 2.3.0 and also a migration guide for moving from current version to version 2.3.0 with minimum effort. You can find both, template project and migration guide here.

Experience from the last iOS update let us believe that Apple provides the final release to the public approximately three weeks after the Golden Master is available but this time, we only have 6 days.

As always you can continue using your existing license keys.

Apperplace Publishing – Update Release 2.3.0 for iOS 5

For sure all of you know that Apple’s new operating system iOS 5 is expected to be released in October. iOS 5 will bring along numerous changes on how things are handled. These changes will also affect Apperplace Publishing, which means that we have to make some adjustments to our product.

We plan on providing the iOS 5 update for Apperplace Publishing instantly, once the final beta release (so called Golden Master) is available. Experience from the last iOS updates shows that Apple provides the final release to the public approximately three weeks after the Golden Master is available. We strongly recommend that you update your app with the new Apperplace Publishing release 2.3.0 as soon as possible, once it is available for download. As always you can continue using your existing license keys.
