In order to enable you to comply to these rules, various code and template project adjustments were made in both template projects. Hence we encourage you to download the latest template project for Apperplace Publishing, version 3.4.0 and Apperplace Bookstall, version 1.6.3 and to compile and submit your apps so they are up to the latest standards.

Apperplace Bookstall customers will also be able to make use of an optimized link configuration within the Apperplace Management Console.

Also, there now is the possibility to add a second category filter, which allows for better structuring of information, for instance in order to define regions or countries publications belong too. To help you efficiently positioning these elements and to make our product Apperplace Bookstall even more comfortable to use, we have released a great new feature with our latest release 1.6.1!

The new WYSIWYG Positioning Feature simplifies the positioning for links and flying buttons: When the test mode is enabled, a positioning helper can be activated. A rectangle will appear in your publication and the toolbar will show the x and y coordinates as well as width and height of the rectangle. This information can be used when setting up a link or flying button within the content media platform. It is very easy to edit the rectangle – just move it around and drag it by using your finger or change the values displayed in the toolbar.

Newsstand can best be regarded as a special folder on the home screen. It contains Newsstand apps, which are represented with their latest cover image instead of an app icon as in home screen apps . Newsstand apps are designed for periodicals and magazines and are said to have better sales figures. They also support special features, such as background downloads, which are not available for home screen apps. Just try out one of our free newsstand examples (e.g. Flush the Fashion) and one of the free home screen examples (e.g. Timeless Quality Products) to get a better idea.

Caveat: Currently you have to build your apps with XCode4.4.1. We will add support for building with XCode4.5 as soon as possible.

To ensure, your latest issue will be visible in iTunes too, you should update the cover image in iTunes connect by following these few steps:

  • Login to iTunes Connect

  • Select your app

  • Go to the Newsstand section (by pressing the Newsstand button)

  • Add issue

  • Enter all necessary information and upload the cover image of your latest issue

  • Apple will need some hours to update the cover image in iTunes

Basically this is possible via a new special feature in the options tab, that allows you to set a page, other than the first page, to be opened by the app after download of the publication (initial and update).

For proper right to left reading support, you must define the last page of the respective publication to be opened initially. You should also set the page turn effect to swipe and deactivate the page indicator in the toolbar settings as well as the switch page turn effect button.

Of course this feature can be used for other use cases too, such as opening the publication on a page with a specific advertisement etc. More information is available in the Apperplace Bookstall User Manual Content Media Platform, chapter 3.2. The new documentation also contains information on how to do bulk uploads of links, search entries and the index by using files.
