Issue in Apperplace Publishing Documentation

Chapter 2.3.1 of the Apperplace Publishing Documentation stated, that widths are fix and for squared content width and height are fix. This would mean that you have to adjust your publication’s aspect ratio, which is absolutely not correct. Neither width nor height are fix in Apperplace Publishing and you can keep your publication’s aspect ratio just the way it is.

However, due to display dimensions and memory handling, there are maximum values for each of them in the respective orientation. If your publication does not make use of one of the maximum values, the correct way for setting picture sizes is as follows:

  • For portrait formatted content use the maximum value for height and calculate the corresponding value for width. Apperplace will add a black margin to the right and left side of your page in landscape orientation and a black margin to the right of your page in portrait orientation. Make sure the aspect ratio between height and width is still the same. An example is available on the Apple App Store.
  • For landscape formatted content use the maximum value for width and calculate the corresponding value for heigth. Make sure the aspect ratio between height and width is still the same. Apperplace will add a black margin to the top and bottom of your page in landscape orientation and a in portrait orientation.
Also here an example is available on the Apple App Store.

Final note: Since Apperplace publishing supports center, left and right as horizontal alignments, the black margin will appear only on the right side, if you choose the left horizontal alignment and vice versa for the right.
